Billiards began as an outdoor lawn sport in the 15th century — the first indoor billiard table was built in the late 15th century for the French king Louis XI, because he wanted to play in winter too. The lawn became green cloth.

Follow through with the cue. Keep your eye on the contact point, not the ball — if you can hold the stroke without flinching, you'll play reliably straight.
